My Approach

Coaching that puts you in the centre

I'm trained in two disciplines that people often confuse. They work differently, they complement each other, and knowing which one you need is the first step.

Discipline One

What is biokinetics?

Bio = LifeKinetics = Movement

The term loosely translates to "life through movement". It is the application of exercise in rehabilitative treatment and performance. We use exercise as a treatment modality to improve one's health, function, performance and pain.

We are primarily concerned with secondary phase or final phase rehabilitation, which means we focus on teaching a patient to correctly engage and use their muscles to enhance function and performance of the body, in order to rehabilitate and correct issues that may predispose a person to re-injury or new injuries altogether.

Core focus areas

Final-phase rehabilitation

Restoring full function, strength and mobility after physical injuries, orthopaedic surgeries or medical events, once acute medical care is complete.

Chronic disease management

Using targeted exercise programmes to help manage conditions like diabetes, heart disease, arthritis and hypertension.

Health promotion

Assessing physical status and prescribing individual exercise habits to improve overall wellness and prevent illness.

Performance enhancement

Analysing and improving biomechanics and physical conditioning for athletes and active individuals.

Discipline Two

What is health & wellness coaching?

It is essentially life coaching, but from a health and wellness perspective. The National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching defines it as an evidence-based, client-centred process that helps people develop and reach health goals they have set for themselves.

The distinction that matters: a coach does not diagnose, prescribe, or write your programme. A coach partners with you to find the motivation that is already yours, turn it into goals you actually believe in, and hold you accountable to them long after the initial enthusiasm has worn off.

It is the part of health that has nothing to do with knowing what to do, and everything to do with doing it, week after week, when life gets in the way.

Side by side

Different tools, the same goal

Where they differ

  • Who holds the plan. In biokinetics I assess you and prescribe the programme, and the exercise itself is the treatment. In coaching you set the direction and I help you get there.
  • What we're solving. Biokinetics addresses a physical problem: an injury, a condition, a movement pattern, a performance ceiling. Coaching addresses a behavioural one: starting, and then keeping going.
  • How it's measured. Biokinetics has objective markers: range of motion, strength, blood pressure, function. Coaching is measured by the habits that survive.

Where they meet

  • Movement over medication. Both work through what you do rather than what you take.
  • Alongside your care. Neither replaces your doctor. Both are built to complement the treatment plans of the health professionals already helping you.
  • Built around you. Both are individualised. There is no standard programme, because there is no standard person.
  • The long game. Both measure success in quality of life a year from now, not a number next week.

This is why I trained in both. The best-designed programme in the world does nothing if it isn't followed, and motivation without a safe, correct programme leads to injury or a plateau. Together they cover both halves of the problem.

How I coach

The Big 4

Grounded in the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) scope of practice and code of ethics.

01

You are the expert

You know your life, your preferences and your story better than anyone. Coaching helps you self-discover the values, resources and strategies that are truly meaningful to you.

02

A guide, not a dictator

As your coach I facilitate, motivate and guide. I don't diagnose, prescribe or lecture. The structure is mine; the direction is yours.

03

Real behaviour change

We focus on sustainable habits and quality-of-life improvements, not quick fixes. Small, individualised steps that actually stick.

04

Working with your care team

I support changes that complement treatment plans prescribed by doctors and other health professionals. I coach alongside medical care, never replacing it.
