My Journey
The road that led me here
Every step, from the sports fields to the lecture halls to the years that tested my resolve, shaped the coach and biokineticist I am today.
A life built around movement
From playing at a high level across many sporting codes, coaching them, and watching sport intently for as long as I can remember, observing and understanding how the body moves and functions has always been my deepest passion. As such, I wanted my career to represent this, helping human beings move, perform and BE their best.
Discovering Biokinetics
I attended an insightful job shadow at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. There I was introduced to the profession, where I got to see first hand the incredible ability of exercise, rather than medicine or pharmaceuticals, to completely change people's lives for the better. That's when I knew I had found my calling.
Studying at UWC
I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Science at the University of the Western Cape, followed by my BA Honours in Biokinetics in 2020, where I finished as one of the top-performing students in my class. Because it was a BA degree, my Arts subject of choice was Psychology. I've always been interested in psychology, and studying it sprouted my desire to potentially pursue a career in that field too.
Internship year
I interned at the African Sports Training Academy under the mentorship of Ricardo Siljuer, a respected biokineticist specialising in youth athlete development and outreach work. There I broadened my knowledge base and gained valuable hands-on experience in the industry, and realised the true benefits that biokinetics can provide.
International qualification
During my internship, an opportunity arose to enrol in a Health & Wellness Coaching qualification through an American company called Intervent International. Additionally, after I qualified, they offered me an internship role to work in the USA. The best short answer to what health and wellness coaching is, and how it differs from biokinetics, is that it is essentially life coaching but from a health and wellness perspective, thus making me a more well-rounded practitioner in the industry I love.
The road back
After many years of working on exciting and wonderful projects and building myself in the service industry, I still found myself feeling unfulfilled. As such, I decided to take a leap of faith, trust my abilities as a health and wellness professional and embrace my true calling. I am now pursuing my deepest passion in earnest, so the knowledge I spent years building can be used to do what I was always meant to do: help people change the way they live their lives for the better.
Where that leaves us
